In fiscal 2022/2023 Bertrandt benefited from large-scale research and development investment by its customers in the megatrends of digitalisation, autonomous driving, connectivity and electromobility. These investment activities focused primarily on innovations for sustainable technologies to shape the transformation in the various sectors. ‘There are different manufacturer-specific strategies with regard to the transition to e-mobility, but all major providers are planning to expand their electric fleets in the coming years. And technological opportunities are also arising from the other megatrends. We are therefore confident about the coming fiscal year because technological innovations, a growing diversity of electric vehicle models and the optimisation of ongoing projects continue to open up a wide range of opportunities for us as an engineering services provider,’ says Markus Ruf, member of the Management Board of Bertrandt AG.
However, the 2022/2023 fiscal year was also characterised by challenging macroeconomic conditions, such as geopolitical tensions, high inflation rates, rising interest rates and weak overall economic growth rates worldwide.
Nevertheless, the company achieved growth of 14.7 per cent in total revenues for the 2022/2023 fiscal year, attaining a record high of EUR 1,157.411 million (fiscal year 2021/2022: EUR 1,009.159 milion). In line with the increase in total revenues, the number of employees rose to 14,276 employees as at the end of the reporting period (fiscal year 2021/2022, as at 30 September 2022: 13,179). The fact that the Bertrandt Group benefited overall in the 2022/2023 reporting period from increasing capacity utilisation, cost optimisation measures introduced during the pandemic and active inflation management is also reflected in its EBIT. This amounted to EUR 50.080 million as at 30 September 2023 (fiscal year 2021/2022: EUR 41.664 million). The company was also able to increase the EBIT margin, which was 4.3 per cent in the reporting period (fiscal year 2021/2022: 4.1 per cent). Post-tax earnings in the fiscal year 2022/2023 were EUR 30.444 million (fiscal year 2021/2022: EUR 21.134 million).
Constantly adapting to the new requirements of the market, Bertrandt is actively shaping the path of transformation in the automotive industry and other sectors. The key megatrends underlying Bertrandt's business success are considered as intact by the company. These are environmentally friendly individual mobility, digitalisation, connected and autonomous driving, as well as a greater variety of models and variants of electrified vehicles. In summary, Bertrandt anticipates an increase in total revenues of between EUR 70 and 110 million and an EBIT margin of between 5 per cent and 7 per cent for the 2023/2024 fiscal year.
