Key components of the vehicle front end are developed on the basis of close cooperation between our Simulation and Testing departments. A wide variety of proposed solutions are examined to enable efficient human-vehicle interaction. The challenge lies in the interdisciplinary and sometimes conflicting design of vehicle structures that are in harmony with a human’s ability to withstand loads.
In the convergence process from design to engineering, the necessary deformation spaces are created and designed with regard to their efficient use for an impact. Crash-active systems such as active hoods make it possible to relieve the conflict of objectives between a sporty design and safety-focused engineering. The necessary sensor arrangement for such crash-active systems is also included in the range of partner protection services.
We also work closely with our Electronics Development and Validation units in the field of accident-avoiding functions, such as emergency braking or controlled evasive action systems. In this way, we can make sure that the sensors recognize the object, that the software makes reliable decisions, and that the vehicle controls the brakes and steering safely. As a result, we help to ensure that an accident does not occur in the first place.
