Doors and hatches

Between design and functional safety

In our “Doors and hatches” competence center we implement the design requirements of our customers, assure functional safety, and see to it that structural design, structural calculations and testing in trials are closely intermeshed. With our experience in lightweight construction, we develop material concepts, implement kinematic requirements, and look after the integration of system suppliers and interface management. The development of doors continues to be an elementary factor of engineering and design in electric vehicles.

  • Aspects such as lightweight construction, cost reduction and suitability for daily use remain key issues.
  • The design needs of the car manufacturers and new vehicle concepts are becoming increasingly important. With autonomous driving, for example, things like an entry area that is easily accessible, a larger aperture angle, or doing without a B-pillar completely become relevant.
  • Hatches, in comparison, are losing relevance. With the absence of the combustion engine a hood with hinges, brackets and bearings can be done without and could be replaced by a more lightweight plastic cover.

Development of doors and hatches

  • Dimensioning of door hinges, opening lines, X-flanges
  • Expertise in different structure concepts
  • Development of the functionality of built-in and attachment parts
  • Assembly studies
  • Integration of safety parts
