Body in white

Know-how for new body developments

At Bertrandt, body in white encompasses development projects such as front and rear vehicle, cabs, or ladder frames for the widest range of vehicle classes and types of motorization.

We have built up an enormous store of know-how related to the use of materials such as aluminum, magnesium, titanium, high-strength and complex steels, thermoplastic plastics, natural and carbon-reinforced plastics (CRP) or the use of sandwich structures. Essential for this is also the review and selection of suitable joining and production methods.

Body in white development

  • Body structure concept in composite design
  • Selection of the necessary joining techniques
  • Incorporation of all safety requirements
  • Incorporation of industrialization requirements

Extensive experience in the development of electric vehicles

Bertrandt has extensive experience in the development of new body structures for electric vehicles: this particularly includes structural integration of high-voltage batteries.

  • Integration of the battery: New e-vehicle concepts no longer require a tunnel (backbone chassis) between the front seats. Through the integration of the battery case and other reinforcement measures, statics, torsional strength and strength in general are guaranteed. Moreover, we make use of the battery casing for other functions, too.
  • Interdisciplinary electromobility centers: For related areas of expertise, Bertrandt has its own electromobility centers. Here, we take an interdisciplinary approach to topics related to electric powertrain, charging technologies, high-voltage batteries and to the functions and applications of power electronics.
  • More room for occupants: An electric drive system is less complex, and requires only a fraction of the parts. We optimize the space gained to suit either the occupants (example: one-box design) or the payload.
  • A roof made of glass: With the trend toward autonomous driving, concepts for more comfort and entertainment are taking on a whole new meaning. In vehicle engineering this relates to topics such as better visualization and the view outside, such as through a roof made of glass.
