This course focuses on the fundamentals and prerequisites for accelerating the change process. Without these, the CM2 change process described in Course CM2-04 will not be as fast and efficient as expected.
Organizations often struggle to establish a fast and efficient change process. Many have tried multiple times to speed up their existing process—usually without the desired success. The reason is that they have not created the prerequisites for an efficient change process.
Interpretable interchangeability rules regarding the reassignment of part numbers and the lack of visualization and traceability of changes are just examples of issues that make managing the Digital Twin nearly impossible. When changes occur, all impacts on the entire organization and across all product lifecycle phases should always be considered.
This course addresses several building blocks needed to improve the change process but which lie outside the process itself. In addition, change forms are examined in detail, along with the topic of traceability and how to define and control the effectiveness (change effectivities) of changes.
To eliminate the frequent ambiguity in deciding whether to assign new part numbers, a decision tree with interchangeability rules is introduced. Furthermore, the topic of “cultural change” is also covered.
Ultimately, the entire organization should work with requirements and datasets that are clear, concise, and valid—and remain so, regardless of how many changes are being implemented. This can only be achieved with a fast and efficient change process that facilitates, rather than hinders, the incorporation of changes—this process is presented in Course CM2-04.
