Subsidiary development
1993 spacer_28px.png The subsidiary in Cologne is established on October the 1st. The range of services offered is continually expanded within the fields of development and design of bodyshell components and system modules and development of internal and external surfaces.
1998   Move to a new building. Provision of project offices for full service suppliers.
1999   On June 2, Ford confers Tier 1 status on Bertrandt. Building work on the expansion of the Technology Centre starts in the autumn.
2000   Bertrandt in Cologne starts apprentice training programme.
2001
  The building extension is formally opened on May 22. The additional services include an electronics laboratory and design studio as well as capabilities in the areas of engine and transmission, electrics/electronics and computation. The facility receives a Q1 award from Ford.
2004   Bertrandt receives the environmental certification pursuant to ISO 14001. 
2006   The new apprenticed trade “product designer” is successfully integrated into our service structure.
An accredited test lab with a wide ranging service spectrum is established at the Cologne subsidiary.
2007   Bertrandt installs high-capacity clusters for the long-life-cycle and crash calculations.
Bertrandt becomes a certificated education partner of the Federal Employment Office and since then qualifies engineers in the application of the CAD software CATIA.
Extension of the design studio for the production of vehicle models as well as for the precise, down to the last detail conception of vehicle interiors.
2008    Closer collaboration with Hella and other system suppliers in the operating site in Lippstadt.
Opening of a project office in Duisburg to offer a closer collaboration with ThyssenKrupp Stahl (TKS).
Leasing of a test hall for car rebuilding.
Amplification of the test attainment in the division component proving: Startup of an accessible climate chamber to arrange environmental simulations at the complete vehicle.

Core competencies
Approximately 700 employees in the Cologne facility work on the design and development of vehicle bodyshell parts and system modules, with activity continuing right up to the provision of support for series production launch. Products include complete door modules, lock systems, internal fitments and headlamp and lighting systems. External and internal surface development is also offered. The facility also provides capabilities in the areas of engine and transmission, electrics/electronics and computation. A 450 sqm studio provides first-class design modelling facilities. Finally, photo-optical scanning with GOM-Atos is offered. All services are backed up by expert project and quality management. The close proximity to customers is guaranteed by the establishment of project offices close to the customers. Quick, uncomplicated communication depicts an important success factor for the high quality of our services. Within the Bertrandt network, the facility in Cologne provides a service for the end-to-end development of modules and vehicle derivatives.
