A "global" engineering project for the utility vehicle secti
Bertrandt France

A new challenge
Strictly orientated to Renault's strategy – in this way Bertrandt France could win the trust of this important customer!! Decisively for this, was always an open ear for the customer and the ability to be able to shoulder for Renault as well as Bertrandt a new project configuration.
On 2nd May, 2006 the starting signal fell for the body-in-white competence centre under the management of Serge Petitdemange and for Patrick Ory of the car body design team for the joint adventure with utility vehicle construction in the range of painting/corrosion prevention of iDVU (Ingénierie Division Véhicules Utilitaires), the utility vehicle subsidiary of Renault. The project term probably ends on the 31st December 2008. Bertrandt France was entrusted a complete functional range for the first time, which is a milestone for the respect between Bertrandt and Renault.

Application in several areas

Purposes of this project are

The project team
A 9-headed Bertrandt team at the iDVU location in Villiers Saint-Frédéric manages the project and acts as an interface between the Bertrandt subsidiary in Bièvres where another eight employees are connected by means of a “Securized Dedicated Platform“, and the different manufacturing locations of Renault and Nissan.
Furthermore, Bertrandt is likewise in action at the manufacturing locations of Maubeuge, Batilly and Barcelona.

Project process
Project segment pre-development
Here the entire car body is concerned. At first Bertrandt received the digital design data for the car body, the part lists and the requirements for the different functional areas from Renault. At the beginning Bertrandt France compiled a project schedule for the different working steps (sealing seams, rockfall protection, sealing mass, filling, paint etc.), before the actual development was begun with. Afterwards the data were put into archives in the form of CATIA models in iDVU data banks and the accompanying 2D plans, dimension tables and surface calculations were provided for the products.

New working methods could be implemented through the application of the CAD program CATIA V5 and the level of data detail are increased significantly. For the purposes of a more robust and more functional development new tools were developed around CATIA V5 also, with which information from the CAD area as well as from other Renault's tools can be connected and processed more easily and more certainly.

Painting tool project segment
For all new utility vehicles Bertrandt develops and manufactures the painting tools. Here, knowledge consecutively flows in through feedback loops into other optimisation steps - and this across different iDVUProjects. With this beginning Bertrandt can guarantee an excellent quality management, from the concept of the tools across production up to the application at the supplier and at the manufacturing plant of the customer.

For Bertrandt’s positioning at Renault this first; global, developing project in the range of paining for the utility vehicle section has a strategic meaning. Thus here it is evident that Bertrandt France can assume responsibility for an entire functional area - and therefore justifies the trust of the customer.

The engineers are especially proud, to have won already new projects and could also convince on a managerial level with this first project for Renault iDVU.
