On 1 October 2010, Bertrandt’s Hamburg office looks back on 10 years of specific development services and stable customer relationships. With the opening of the Hamburg office, the Bertrandt Group continued its strategy of decentralised customer orientation to provide intensive on-site support for manufacturers and suppliers from the aviation and automotive industries. Today, with an additional site in Bremen, Bertrandt Hamburg offers comprehensive development solutions for its international customers. As a partner in the joint venture “Bertrandt Aeroconseil”, the company is a preferred supplier to the EADS Group.

Know-how provider to the automotive and aviation industries
An expansion of the company's services and customer base, newly created jobs and the coordination of the group-wide European activities of the Bertrandt Group in aircraft development – Stefan Schürings, branch manager at Bertrandt Hamburg and managing director of the joint venture, is more than satisfied with what has been achieved so far. The foundation of the company on 1st October 2000 as a branch office of Bertrandt Technikum for the local automotive and aviation industry was followed two years later by its expansion with a focus on aviation activities and its conversion into the company Bertrandt Ingenieurbüro GmbH. “Since then, we have continuously extended our range of services,” said Schürings, adding: “Today, we offer engineering solutions in system, component, structural and cabin development as well as at the interface between manufacturing and development in ‘Manufacturing Engineering’.”The Hamburg office offers its existing know-how in order to benefit from synergies between aircraft and vehicle development, for example in lightweight construction or seat development.

Within the Bertrandt Group, Bertrandt Hamburg is the competence centre for composites development. The Hamburg based company is also a training partner for Airbus. As a result, in 2007 Bertrandt is awarded with the “Airbus Composite Training Award”.

Benefit from opportunities with Bertrandt Aeroconseil GmbH
In 2008, the joint venture “Bertrandt Aeroconseil GmbH” was formed. Within the framework of the joint company “Bertrandt Aeroconseil GmbH”, the partners combine their services in order to address the requirements of customers from the international aviation industry even more individually. A further objective is to benefit from synergies in the execution of transnational projects. The joint venture provides services along the entire development chain of aircraft engineering: aircraft design and architecture, structural, system, component and cabin development, prototype building, testing and production services. In the transnational network, Bertrandt Aeroconseil develops engineering solutions at 12 locations for all Airbus sites. Most recently, the office in Donauwörth was opened to provide services to the southern German subsidiary of the EADS Group directly on-site.

New jobs created
The continuous increase in the workforce since the formation of the company is remarkable. “Ten years ago, we started in Hamburg with four engineers and technicians,” explained Alexander Grab, Commercial Branch Manager at Bertrandt Aeroconseil. “Today, we employ several hundred staff in aviation development throughout the Bertrandt Group and have become an established and sustainable development partner for Airbus and the relevant system suppliers in aircraft engineering.” Together with the partner Aeroconseil, more than 1,300 aviation specialists throughout Europe are developing solutions for national and international aviation customers.

Commitment to the Hamburg site
Due to the ongoing trend towards awarding development contracts to external partners and the increasing number of individual equipment versions and technological innovations, Bertrandt sees further potential for the continued positive development of the company. “With tailor-made solutions and a solid financial base, Bertrandt together with the joint venture intends to remain a reliable partner and to create further new jobs at the site,” said Alexander Grab.
